A new optical connecting scheme enabling high efficiency and low cost between optical devices and optical wiring is needed for realization of optical interconnection. In this letter, we focus on optical connection at the receiver side. The receiving area of photodiode (PD) becomes smaller as the required response speed becomes faster. As a result, requirement of positional alignment should be serious. To solve this problem, a new optical connecting scheme applying a self-written (SW) optical funnel between PD and optical wiring has been proposed. To fabricate SW-optical funnels, "Microlens Transfer Method" has been developed. The shape and optical characteristics of fabricated self-written optical funnels are reported.
