In this paper, we propose a new timing synchronization scheme for differential space time block codes (DSTBC). Both the symbol timing synchronization and the block timing synchronization are needed for DSTBC receivers. The proposed scheme uses bit timing recovery (BTR) techniques without any preambles. Compared with the conventional BTR, the proposed scheme accurately estimates block timing and symbol timing based on the characteristic of DSTBC having a constant signal power at every block. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed scheme is capable of fast synchronization with DSTBC and has more frequency offset tolerance than the conventional BTR.
