Summary: In this paper, properties of artificially-designed materials and their applications in electromagnetic (EM) wave absorber are discussed. First, EM absorber composed of the wire array sheet and a ferrite-powder/rubber mixture is investigated. The relative permittivity of the sheet shows the resonant type dispersion at microwave frequency range. The absorbing characteristics of the absorber can be matched at around the resonant frequency of the sheet. Next, EM absorbers using the wire array sheet having two resonant frequencies are proposed. By using this new developed wire array sheet, the wide matching frequency range can be obtained.
