Summary:
In this paper, a novel method for designing IIR (Infinite Impulse Response) filters using PSO (Particle Swarm Optimization) algorithm is proposed. In the method, poles and zeros of the transfer function are considered as the parameters to be designed. Then, a necessary and sufficient condition for the stability of the IIR filter can be assured without calculating the poles allocation based on filter coefficients, and a design with a specified maximum pole radius can be realized. In addition, we attempt to obtain a better solution by giving some perturbations to initial value of each particle. The design examples are shown to present the effectiveness of the propose method.
