Summary: Various design methodologies are applied to achieve higher performance in processor designs. Not only architecture and logic designs but also circuit and physical designs are important for high performance processor implementation. In circuit and physical designs of processors, both automatic design and manual design are applied selectively to achieve performance as high as possible for a given design period. In this paper, we survey design methodologies which have been applied to industry processors, and summarize methodologies to design high performance processors. And finally, we discuss future research of this area.
