Summary:
In this study, we clarify that the unique characteristic of packet losses appears in the WIND's satellite network. In the satellite network, the multiple packets are dropped at a time when transmission link error occurs because of the frame format of the satellite link. Such a block-loss model is very different from the traditional burst-loss model. Furthermore, in order to accelerate future R&D on WINDS, we model the packet block-loss pattern by combining Poisson distribution and two normal distributions, and implement it as module software of the Network Simulator (NS2).
