Image-sensor-based visible light communication (VLC) using optical scanner have a potential to achieve VLC using consumer devices such as smartphone. However, this technique has two problems; periodical signal missing and signal-to-noise interference, due to optical scanning process. In this paper, the authors propose the use of block transmission and passband signal to VLC using optical scanner, and evaluated its performance in an outdoor environment. The obtained results suggest that the proposed scheme successfully solves the above two problems and achieved high-quality communication if the intensity of received signal is enough.
